Printable & Activity Objectives

💡
Age: 6 to 9 year olds, Activity Time: 2-3 hours, Items Needed: Writing and colouring pencils.

In this activity, your child will learn how to plan and prepare the food and drinks for a family backyard barbecue.

It will help your child or student:

  • Exercise their culinary imagination by (1) identifying and mixing different ingredients and spices to create their own signature dry rubs and (2) creating their own dessert and summer cold beverages.
  • Improve their task management skills i.e. identifying, prioritising and tracking of tasks and setting goals to prepare for the barbecue (shopping for groceries, sending out invites, preparing recipes and marinating meats)

Let's get grilling!

How to Get Started

IMPORTANT: Kids should never handle sharp kitchen tools and live fire barbecue pits without the supervision of adults.

  • Research and find out more about the rich and culturally diverse history of barbecue. Here's a video about the modern history of (American) barbecuing.

Here's two videos of kids trying out different types of barbecued meats/dishes from different cultures and countries.
