In this activity, your child will participate in a scavenger hunt by solving a list of food related riddles and trying to locate them in your neighbourhood supermarket.

It will help your child or student:

• Exercise their knowledge, imagination and critical thinking skills in solving the various food related riddles.
• Train their spatial awareness through navigating their way around the supermarket aisles to locate the different food items in the scavenger hunt list.

How to Get Started

Simple steps to take before your supermarket trip:

• Research and find out about how groceries and goods were sold before the rise of e-commerce shopping. Here's a nice historical feature of the evolution of the grocery store.

Here's another video of how "general stores" provided all sorts of goods and services to the people living in small towns before the days of the supermarket.

• Depending on how much time you have, you could either get your kids to complete the riddles before heading out and search for the items when you get there or start everything at the supermarket.
