Human study of insects date back to the days of Ancient Greece and Rome. However, it was only in the early 19th century that the distinct field of scientific study of insects was established... Entomology!

This creative project based learning (PBL) challenge is a fun printable worksheet set to encourage young children and students to find out more about the field of Entomology and take a deeper look at the study of insects.

Age: 8 to 9 year olds, Activity Time: 6-8 hours, Items Needed: Colouring and writing pencils.

In this activity, your child will learn about the field of Entomology and what Entomologists do, insects in general and the different species of insects in their neighbourhood.

It will help your child or student:

  • Learn about the different areas of focus of Entomology namely, insect classification, insect distribution, insect physiology and insect life cycles.
  • Learn about the key characteristics of insects.
  • Learn how to survey, observe and record the different insects in their neighbourhood or school.
  • Improve his/her artistic and creative skills by drawing and colouring various insect related drawing challenges.
